Pupil Premium Statement

The Pupil Premium is allocated to children who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), Service Children and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. This amount 600 per pupil for 2012 2013. From April 2012 the Pupil Premium was extended to include children who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM Measure). Schools also receive 250 for pupils whose parents are serving in the armed forces.

At The Ferns Primary Academy funding is targeted at narrowing the attainment gaps between learners.

In 2012 - 13 it was used in the following ways:

To purchase and implement RWI across the whole school to ensure all children have a sound grasps of phonics at the earliest possible age

Additional staffing to provide small group support to boost attainment in Reading, Writing and Maths

Additional part-time staffing to reduce pupil/teacher ratio for Literacy and Numeracy to boost attainment in Reading, Writing and Maths.

Additional staffing to provide intervention classes in Year 6

Provision of Breakfast Club places

Purchase of Lap tops

Parent Mail purchased for home school communication

Bug Club reading programme

Funding for music lessons and educational residential visits for some pupils to support holistic learning and development

The impact of this funding has been:

Improved attainment and progress in most key stages

Improved progress and attainment of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium

71% of Year 2 children have passed Phonics test

80% of children including FSM have made progress in phonics

Vulnerable FSM families are easily contacted
